Naarden elected men’s MVP in Trinidad

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, June 7, 2009.-
Robert Naarden of Suriname was elected as
the Most Valuable Player of the Norceca- C
men’s second round tournament of the 2010
FIVB World Championship.
Naarden was the top attacker for the
Suriname team which was a pleasant surprise
in the competition. He was the only member
of his side named to the All-Star Team.
Kevin Alleyne of Trinidad & Tobago earned
the recognition as best digger, receiver and
libero, and his teammates Saleem Ali and
Marc Honore were elected as best setter and
spiker respectively.

Suriname
claims first place at Men’s Norceca-C |

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, June 6, 2009.-
Suriname defeated U.S. Virgin Islands by
score of 16-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-17 to
finish atop of he Norceca-C second round
men’s tournament of the 2010 FIVB World
Championship.
The victory sent Suriname to the Norceca-H
tournament in Cuba in August 14-16 to play
against Canada, Bahamas and the home team.
By finishing second, U.S. Virgin Islands
advanced to Norceca-G in Puerto Rico next
July 8-10 to compete against Mexico,
Barbados and the host squad.
Giovanni Lin (12), Roberto Joval (11) and
Rabi Daans (10) topped the scoring of
Suriname and Giovanne Riedewald and Robert
Naardem chipped in 9 and 8 points
respectively.

Hosts Trinidad & Tobago defeated Netherlands
Antilles in straight sets 25-18, 25-22,
25-15 to win the bronze medal of the Norceca-C
men’s second round tournament of the 2010
FIVB World Championship.
It was a consolation victory for the home
team that was left out of the next round of
the world event by losing to the U.S. Virgin
Islands the previous night. Marc Honore and
Nolan Tash led the Trinidadians with 17 and
16 points respectively..More

Aruba
claimed fifth place in Men’s Norceca-C |

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, June 6,
2009.- Aruba defeated Antigua and
Barbuda 25-15, 25-18, 12-25, 25-19 to
claim the fifth place at the Norceca-C
second round tournament of the 2010
FIVB Men’s World Championship.
Daniel Mitchel and Eargenell de Cuba
led Aruba with 14 and 12 points
respectively and Olsen Joseph and
Xavier Roberts topped Antigua and
Barbuda with 12 and 11 points.
“It was good for us to see volleyball
at this level and I am glad about
winning our first game”, said
Elmerlindo Robles, the captain of
Aruba.

2009.- Suriname pulled a major upset
by eliminating favorites hosts
Trinidad & Tobago 3-1 (22-25, 25-23,
25-19, 25-22) and advancing to the
third round of the 2010 FIVB Men’s
World Championship.
They will meet U.S. Virgin Islands in
the gold’s medal match on Saturday
with both teams already having secured
berths in the next phase in Puerto
Rico or Cuba depending on the
winners.Earlier, U.S. Virgin Islands
edged Netherlands Antilles with a
sensational comeback triumph in five
sets by score of 25-23, 23-25, 16-25,
26-24, 17-15.

thrilling five-setter over Netherlands

to the third round of the 2010 FIVB
Men’s World Championship as semi
finalists of the Norceca-C tournament.
Shimoi Van Holten landed the decisive
spike in the fourth match-point chance
after his team was able to come back
from a 10-6 deficit in the
tie-breaker.

recovered from a 2-1 deficit and
scored a thrilling victory in five
sets over U.S. Virgin Islands to win
Pool A of the Norceca-C second round
tournament of the 2010 FIVB Men’s
World Championship. The score was
25-14, 22-25, 15-25, 25-18, 15-12.
In the semi finals on Friday, the
Trinidadians will meet the
representative of Suriname.

2009.- Suriname defeated Antigua in
straight sets (30-28, 25-8, 25-15)
advancing to the semi final phase of
the Norceca-C men’s second round
tournament of the 2010 FIVB World
Championship.
The victory gave Suriname a 1-1
win-loss record and second place in
the three-team Pool B won by
Netherlands Antilles. Antigua dropped
to 0-2.
Gino Robert Naarden led Suriname with
22 points and Ernesto Holband added
13, including six blocks. Xavier
Roberts led Antigua with 10 points.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, June 3,
2009.- U.S. Virgin Islands debuted
with a 3-1 victory over Aruba (27-25,
21-25, 25-20, 25-18) in the Norceca-C
second round tournament of the FIVB
Men’s World Championship. The loss
eliminated Aruba (0-2) from advancing
to the semi final stage of the
six-team competition.
The solid blocking was the key for the
winners recording a total of 15
positives in that category against 7
from their rivals.

Netherlands Antilles continue playing big |

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, June 3, 2009.-
Netherlands Antilles men’s team recorded
its second victory in as many days by
edging Suriname 26-24, 25-23, 25-21 in the
Norceca-C second round tournament of the
FIVB 2010 World Championship.
The win gave Netherlands Antilles a 2-0
win-loss record in the three-team Pool B
of the competition. Suriname and Antigua
meet on Thursday to decide the other side
advancing to the semi final phase.

2009.- Hosts Trinidad & Tobago men
showed terrific offensive power while
crushing Aruba in straight sets by
score of 25-11, 25-23, 25-13 in their
debut at the Norceca-C second round
tournament of the FIVB 2010 World
Championship.
In the closing contest of Day One, the
local men showed no mercy against
their opponents displaying their
weapons from the first whistle of the
first set. They slowed down a little
in the second but came back with
renovated energy for the third and
final set.

2009.- The Netherlands Antilles men’s
team enjoyed a very strong outing in
their debut at the Norceca-C second
round tournament of the FIVB 2010
World Championship by trouncing
Antigua & Barbuda by score of 25-16,
25-13, 25-17.
Gilbert Paulina, the captain of
Netherlands Antillas, was the best
player of the match with 18 points
including 4 serving aces and Brandon
Dania had 11 with 2 aces.

2009.- The U.S. Virgin Islands Men’s
team came here to battle for one of
the two tickets available for the next
phase at the Norceca-C second round
tournament of the 2010 FIVB Men’s
World Championship.
Coach Jason Liburd seemed confident
about his side’s chances while talking
during the press conference prior the
